A. O. Smith Corporation Declares Quarterly Dividend

MILWAUKEE, Oct. 12, 2004 -- Directors of A. O. Smith Corporation today declared a regular quarterly cash dividend of $.16 per share on Common Stock and Class A Common Stock.

The dividend is payable on Nov. 15 to shareholders of record Oct. 29.
