Ringers Gloves Weekend MotorSports Wrap-up

Indianapolis – (October 11, 2004) “Front Row” Joe Nemechek did double-duty
over the weekend in NASCAR Busch Series and Nextel Cup Series competition at
Kansas Speedway in his NEMCO Motorsports and MB2 Motorsports entries…and
took home double the wins.
On Saturday, Nemechek held off a hard-charging Greg Biffle in the closing
laps of the Mr. Goodcents 300 to capture the win.
On Sunday, Nemechek started on the pole of the Banquet 400 presented by
ConAgra Foods alongside Raybestos Rookie of the Year leader Kasey Kahne.
Nemechek led on and off throughout the race and took the lead over for the
final time on lap 231.
The first win for the No. 01 didn’t come easy, as he had to hold off another
hard-charging driver…Ricky Rudd.
The Penske Racing South Dodge stables saw rookie Brendan Gaughan collect his
second top-10 finish of the year, finishing 10th at Kansas.
His Penske South teammates of Rusty Wallace and Ryan Newman recorded
respective 18th and 33rd finishes.
Newman was running fifth when he collided with the turn two wall on lap 208.
The 33rd place finish drops Newman one position to eighth in the Chase for
the Championship.
In addition to his ninth win of 2004 on Sunday, Tony Schumacher wrapped up
the 2004 NHRA POWERade Top Fuel points championship at the makeup Lucas Oil
NHRA Nationals at Maple Grove Raceway in Reading, Pa.
Schumacher posted a 4.475/329.99 mph run over challenger Bob Vandergriff.
Vandergriff left the line with Shoe, but dropped a motor and coasted across
the finish line at 8.206 seconds.
In Pro Stock, Greg Anderson ended his weekend winless again, but this time
it was in the family to KB Racing teammate Jason Line.
Anderson’s .029 start to Line’s .062 quickly faded as Line overpowered and
outran his boss, 6.669/206.23 mph to 6.681/206.67 mph.
On a side note, Schumacher Racing picked up a national title and three
Wallys on Sunday. The title and one Wally went to Tony Schumacher, as stated
above, and the others went to Gary Scelzi in Funny Car and Angelle Savoie (who
beat out teammate Antron Brown) in Pro Stock Bike.
Savoie and Brown also set the quickest side-by-side pass in the finals with
a 7.018/191.29 mph run vs. 7.047.184.35 mph.
Savoie also recorded her 34th Pro Stock Bike career win.
