Toyota's Kentucky Plant Featured in Company's Latest Corporate Ad
NEW YORK, Oct. 6, 2004 -- Toyota Motor North America, Inc. today announced that Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Kentucky (TMMK) will be featured in the fourth print execution of its new corporate advertising campaign, initially launched in July.
Entitled "Good Business," the campaign emphasizes Toyota's long-term commitment to the U.S. market, which has resulted in the creation of 190,000 jobs including dealers and suppliers.
"As Toyota's first wholly-owned manufacturing facility in the U.S., TMMK has played a significant role in our growth strategy," said Dennis Cuneo, senior vice president of Toyota Motor North America, Inc. "Today, it remains our largest manufacturing facility in the U.S. and a symbol of our long-term commitment to job creation, investment and respect for the communities in which we do business."
Located in Georgetown, TMMK commenced operations in 1988 and currently employs approximately 7,200 team members. The plant produces a total of 500,000 units annually of the Toyota Camry, America's best-selling car, the Camry Solara and the Avalon.
The headline of the ad featuring TMMK reads, "Our vehicles don't just take people to work, they put people to work." The accompanying photo is a split- screen photo of a TMMK-built Camry Solara. The left half of the photo shows a TMMK team member putting the finishing touches on the vehicle at the plant. The right half of the photo shows a young professional entering the driver's side door. The ad copy mentions Toyota's eight manufacturing plants, sales and marketing operations and research and design facilities located throughout the U.S. that have resulted in the creation of 190,000 jobs. In addition, the copy mentions ongoing growth in the U.S. market including two plants under construction.
The first three advertisements in this campaign featured Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Texas (TMMTX), Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Alabama (TMMAL) and Toyota Motor Manufacturing, Indiana (TMMI). Upcoming advertisements will include Toyota Motor Sales, U.S.A. in Torrance, Calif., site of the largest "green" building complex in the United States, as well as Toyota Motor Manufacturing, West Virginia, Toyota's four-cylinder and V6 engine and automatic transmission plant which supplies all four of Toyota's existing North American vehicle plants.
"This ad was really inspired by talking to the team members in Kentucky", said Paul Bernasconi, executive vice president and executive creative director at DCA Advertising, who created the campaign. "They're really focused on the end-product of what they do. They're not just thinking about the vehicles they build, but the drivers of those vehicles. We really wanted to capture that relationship between the driver and team-member".
The campaign is running in more than 40 national publications, including USA Today, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times, Time and others. In addition, the ads will appear in local business publications in the communities surrounding some of the featured operations. A member of the American business community since 1957, Toyota currently has eight manufacturing plants in the U.S., which built over 1 million vehicles in 2003. Toyota and its suppliers and dealers are responsible for more than 190,000 jobs in the U.S. and the company's total investment in the U.S. market now exceeds $12 billion.
