GEICO Raises $80,000 for Children's Hospital

WASHINGTON, Oct. 4, 2004 -- GEICO associates at the company's headquarters in Chevy Chase, Md. joined forces with GEICO's Philanthropic Foundation to donate $80,000 to Children's Hospital this year.

At a check presentation ceremony on Thursday, September 30th, Ron Guzinski, GEICO's assistant vice president of human resources, presented the $80,000 check to Kelly O'Neil, Children's Hospital's coordinator for workplace giving.

"GEICO is very proud of our associates' participation in this year's Children's Hospital campaign," said Guzinski. "Many of our associates and their families have benefited from the hospital. Children's Hospital is a vital part of our community."

For the past 24 years, GEICO associates have devoted the entire month of July to daily events aimed at raising vital dollars for the hospital. Their efforts have contributed nearly $800,000 to Children's Hospital research and patient care facilities.

"I am extremely proud to be associated with GEICO's Children's Hospital campaign," said Nancy Kirby, one of the campaign coordinators. "All of our volunteers worked tirelessly and organized numerous activities to earn money for a worthy charity while having fun."

Special events this year included a musical cake walk, basket bingo, a fitness challenge, thank-u-grams sale and a golfing chip and putt contest. The company's actuaries even put together a cookbook of favorite staff recipes and are bringing in sample items to promote book sales.
