Delphi and Ferrari Continue Long-Running Relationship with Thermal & Electrical Systems Support of 612 Scaglietti
MARANELLO, Italy, Oct. 4, 2004 -- Delphi Corporation's long-running relationship with Ferrari is strengthened even further with the 2004 launch of the Italian marquee's new 612 Scaglietti, a 2+2 coupe that features product solutions provided for several of the automaker's models.

The 612 Scaglietti, the highly anticipated successor to the 456M, began reaching customers earlier this year, doing so with Delphi's advanced climate control systems and full electrical systems responsibility. It's familiar ground for Delphi, which provides similar product support for Ferrari's 360 and 575 Maranello family of vehicles.
With the 612 Scaglietti, named as such to honor legendary coachbuilder Sergio Scaglietti, Ferrari's drive to bring hallmarks in luxury, refinement and performance to motorists continues in a model that's as much a technological benchmark as it is a tribute to a rich heritage.
"Ferrari looks to its suppliers for the very best technology to enhance its standing as one of the most desirable brands worldwide, and that clearly shows in the new 612 Scaglietti," said Stefaan Vandevelde, managing director of European operations for Delphi's Packard Electric division. "Though new, it's already a very worthy chapter in a storied history, and it brings an important part of the past into the 21st century with Ferrari's tribute to Mr. Scaglietti."
Sergio Scaglietti made his indelible mark on Ferrari in the 1950s and 1960s, working with aluminum to create some of the automaker's most memorable models. It is with aluminum that the 612 Scaglietti advances the company's technological record, as for the first time ever on a 12-cylinder Ferrari, the construction is all-aluminum, using space-frame design for the chassis and bodyshell.
The car's dual zone climate control system, supplied through Delphi's Thermal & Interior division, features automatic individually controlled front and rear climate control to allow every occupant the same level of thermal comfort. A variable displacement compressor, the heart of the air conditioning system, automatically adjusts capacity to match the vehicle's air conditioning demand.
Delphi Packard Electric has full electrical systems responsibility for the 612 Scaglietti, working closely with Ferrari's Customer Technical Platform, and aided by multiple on-site engineering resources in Maranello.
"The E/EDS technology developed for Ferrari meets the high demands that they have for their vehicles, and the 612 Scaglietti continues with their drive to develop the most technologically advanced vehicles," Vandevelde said. He noted as examples the systems expertise utilized in the fuse protection for the 3-D navigation system and the electronic tire pressure control, which operates under the vehicle's high-speed capability.
