(Oct. 1, 2004) Cruz Pedregon and the Advance Auto Parts Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car opened this weekendıs NHRA National Event at Route 66 Raceway with a bang grabbing the provisional third slot. The California resident, who is coming off back-to-back final round appearances, clicked off a 4.818-second elapsed time at 322.27 mph. Despite intermittent rain showers canceling todayıs second session, Pedregon was optimistic about the start. ³It was an excellent run,² Pedregon said. ³The car left strong and felt great all the way down the track. (Crew chief) Wes (Cerny) said before the run that the track was in good shape and we were going to get after it. ³I kept the car right down the middle of the groove,² Pedregon continued. ³What a way to start the weekend. You couldnıt have scripted it better. Everybody is excited on the team and we hope to keep this thing rolling. It really sets us up to go after that number one qualifying slot.
