SANTA MONICA, Calif., Oct. 1 -- Established automotive journalist Kevin Smith has joined Edmunds.com, (http://www.edmunds.com/), the premier online resource for automotive information, as Editorial Director, a newly created position that furthers the company's efforts to build its editorial offerings and reach.
Smith started at Edmunds.com this week, bringing with him over two decades of experience at a range of automotive enthusiast magazines. In his new role, he will manage the company's growing editorial and broadband video teams, developing expanded automotive coverage that appeals to broader audiences and business partners.
"Kevin, with his deep publishing and media experience, is an ideal choice to help lead Edmunds.com's editorial and media operations as we strive to expand aggressively into new markets," stated Matthew Kumin, Vice President of Consumer Services at Edmunds.com. "We're thrilled to have someone like Kevin, who's such a well-respected and recognized editorial voice in the industry, join the team."
Previously, Smith served as Editorial Director of the Performance Automotive Group at Primedia Inc., responsible for the content, quality, and success of their special-interest automotive and motorcycle magazines. Prior to that assignment, he was Editor-in-Chief of Motor Trend. Earlier in his career, Smith served as Editor at Large for Car and Driver, Executive Editor at Automobile and Managing Editor at Off-Road.
"Edmunds.com has very ambitious plans," said Smith, for whom the Editorial Director position was created. "I was impressed by the talent, the drive, and the commitment at the organization, and wanted to be a part of its future. The initiatives we have in the works are going to make powerful impressions on the public and the auto industry when we roll them out, and they will build on the success Edmunds.com already enjoys."
Smith will focus on developing the company's editorial and multimedia teams. He is also expected to grow the department's relationship with automakers with regard to new product introductions and vehicle testing.
Smith reports directly to Matthew Kumin, Vice President of Consumer Services at Edmunds.com.
