Craig Stanton To Do Porsche Double at Virginia;
Looking to Regain GAC Point Lead
ALTON, Vir., September 30, 2004 - Virginia International Raceway (VIR)
will be the site of Craig Stanton's fifth Grand American Road Racing
Association double-header of the season. The Porsche-expert is looking
to add to his 2004 Grand American winning tally with victories in
Saturday and Sunday's races at the southern Virginia 3.27-mile, 17-turn
race course. The Long Beach, Calif-resident will make his Rolex Series
return debuting with G&W Motorsports in SGS class in Sunday's Rolex
Series VIR 400 presented by SunTrust. He will also continue his pursuit
of the Grand-Am Cup GS class championship with TheRaceSite.com Porsche
in Saturday's Grand-Am Cup 250. Stanton, who won the SGS-class in the
first-round at Homestead-Miami Speedway in February in a Porsche 911 GT3
Cup, will co-drive the VIR-based No. 86 G&W Porsche GT3 with Mae Van
Wijk (Kingwood, Tex.) in the 400-km/ two hour and 45-minute Rolex Series
race.
In Grand-Am Cup, Stanton has won four races this season with the
TheRaceSite.com Porsche 996. He will return with co-driver David Murry,
Cumming, Ga., in the No. 43 Porsche this weekend. Stanton, who led the
GS class points until the most recent race, is now second, 10 points
behind former teammate Terry Borcheller. The duo combined to win the
first three races of the season. Stanton was then joined by Murry and
one race later the two won Stanton's fourth overall victory of the
season. Stanton lost the driver championship point lead after a
mechanical failure dropped him out of the Miami event early. He also
missed one event due to other commitments which allowed Borcheller to
close and then surpass the popular Californian.
The Rolex Series VIR 400 presented by SunTrust can be seen live on
Sunday starting at noon (ET) on SPEED. The Grand-Am Cup 250 will be
shown on a tape-delay basis at noon, Oct. 17th also on SPEED. Zippo Live

Quotes.
Craig Stanton,
about joining G&W Motorsports at VIR: "I'm looking forward to this
weekend. It is very, very exciting to be joining G&W at their home
track. When they asked me to run the [No.] 86 Porsche with Mae it
didn't take me long to say 'yes'. The team does a lot of testing here
and Mae has many, many miles around the VIR course. We have a lot of
work in front of us but Mae and I both know this Porsche well and G&W is
always a top contender. I think this combination is a great one. I have
never raced VIR before but I have tested here so I feel good about it.
This is a great track and I'm really looking forward to getting back
into the Rolex Series in a Porsche. The series and this class are so
competitive that every lap is important. You really have to be on your
game every turn."
about the Grand-Am Cup 250: "Miami was a big disappointment for David
and me. We had a water hose come loose and there is only so long any
engine, even a Porsche, can run in that heat with no water. Until then
we had a race-winning car. David and I will be in the No. 43 this
weekend and we can win this race. Between missing the Mid-Ohio race and
the Miami mechanical, I have some ground to make up on Terry in the
points. But, I am confident that we can do it in the next three races.
We have some good Porsche tracks coming-up and a Grand-Am Cup
championship would mean a lot to me. This is a going to be a great
battle for all of us and the fans are going to get a terrific show for
the rest of the season."
