Oshkosh Truck Receives Contract to Remanufacture Defense Trucks Used in Conflict
OSHKOSH, Wis.--Sept. 30, 2004--Oshkosh Truck Corporation , a leading manufacturer of specialty trucks and truck bodies, announced today that the company has received a four-year, fixed-price contract to rebuild Oshkosh defense trucks and trailers that were deployed during Operation Iraqi Freedom. The contract was awarded by the U.S. Army Tank-automotive and Armaments Command (TACOM). As funds become available, this allows TACOM to contract with Oshkosh to remanufacture Oshkosh defense trucks at fixed prices. The initial delivery order under this contract covers 211 trucks and trailers for a value of $31 million.Under the contract, Oshkosh will continue to remanufacture Oshkosh(R) Heavy Expanded Mobility Tactical Trucks (HEMTT), Heavy Equipment Transporters (HET), and Palletized Load System (PLS) trucks and trailers to "like new" condition. Each vehicle will feature new components, new technologies and a new "zero-hours / zero-miles" bumper-to-bumper warranty. The initial vehicles are scheduled to be returned to the U.S. Army by July 2005 for redeployment.
"Our trucks have seen extremely heavy use throughout the conflict in Iraq, often logging more miles in a month than they normally would in a year. Now, we'll return these assets to like new condition for new missions and continued support of our armed forces," said Robert G. Bohn, Oshkosh chairman, president and chief executive officer.
Revenues and profits from this initial order are already included in estimates that Oshkosh issued during its third quarter earnings conference call on July 27, 2004.
