Amicus Say Jaguar Job Cuts Threaten Land Rover Workers Too
LONDON, September 29 -- Manufacturing union Amicus says it fears that as many as 250 jobs will be lost at Land Rover as a result of the 1,150 Jaguar job cuts.
Amicus officers say that the 750 staff side job cuts announced at Jaguar may result in up to 250 esearch and development job losses at the Gaydon and Solihull Land Rover plants as the company begin to cross over Jaguar and Land Rover functions.
Amicus say they fear the cuts will compromise Land Rover's capability to design and produce new models in the UK.
Tim Parker, Amicus officer for Land Rover said:
"Jobs are going to be lost from Land Rover's research and development arm as Ford make group wide cuts. Our real concern is that this will threaten the development abilities of Land Rover in the UK in the long term."
Amicus say that the 1,150 job cuts at Jaguar may also close the Jaguar research and development centre at Whitley.
1,400 jobs have been lost across the Ford group in the West Midlands since 2002.
