Drink Responsibly. Drive Responsibly.

New Televised Public Service Message From America's Leading Family Restaurants Promotes Responsibility on the Highways

WASHINGTON, Sept. 28 -- America's family restaurants join together to remind Americans to be responsible for the safety of their loved ones and the people with whom they share the road. In the spirit of celebrating responsibly and driving safely, The American Beverage Institute (ABI) has introduced a public service message that everyone should bear in mind: "Drink Responsibly. Drive Responsibly." The message appears in televised spots in major media markets and nationally on cable television as well as nationally on radio PSAs. The "Drink Responsibly. Drive Responsibly." logo already appears on billboards across the country and is printed on hundreds of thousands of menus of many popular restaurants including Outback Steakhouse, Chili's, Applebee's, Red Lobster and many more.

"This important message reminds all adults that if they choose to drink adult beverages they should always do so in moderation," said ABI executive director John Doyle. "It also reminds the public that responsible driving should always be our number one concern when behind the wheel -- whether that means putting down the cell phone, stowing the sandwich, always wearing seat belts, or making sure to get a good night's sleep before a road trip."

The Drink Responsibly. Drive Responsibly. campaign commences as the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) ends its 17-day campaign to crackdown on drunk driving. ABI and all of its member restaurants will continue year-round promotion of its message.

"Over the last two decades, America's family restaurants have worked hand- in-hand with safety advocates to reduce the very real problem of drunk driving," Doyle said. "While other campaigns come and go during holidays, we are fully committed to year-round promotion of responsible behavior through this important message."
