NOTES OF INTEREST: The Food World 300, the 42nd ARCA RE/MAX Series event at Talladega since 1969, is the longest RE/MAX Series race on the schedule at 300 miles. In addition, the $305,814 in posted awards for the event is a record ARCA RE/MAX Series purse. In the 41 races at Talladega, 17 have been won from the pole. Among the teams entered this year, only Bobby Gerhart is a former Talladega winner. Series veteran Frank Kimmel has already locked up the 2004 championship representing a record-tying 6th series title. Only the late Iggy Katona has 6 titles, although no driver other than Kimmel has 5 consecutive series championships. Kimmel, who has never won on a restrictor plate track, is the all-time series superspeedway lap leader with 2,336 laps-led in 63 events. A healthy crop of Cup teams have entered including Hendrick Motorsports (Boston Reid and Blake Feese), Ganassi Racing (Reed Sorenson), BAM Racing (Germany's Klaus Graf) and even an entry from Bill Elliott Motorsports with rookie driver Ray Cook. The outcome of the Food World 300 will determine this year's Bill France Triple Crown winner. The prestigious award, representative of ARCA's extremely diverse schedule, is an accumulation of points from 3 very different tracks - Talladega, the Salem Speedway short-track and the Springfield Illinois mile-dirt. Jason Jarrett currently leads Norm Benning by only 10 points headed into the Talladega finale. Jarrett is also the defending Bill France Triple Crown champion. Talladega is one of two venues for the ARCA RE/MAX Series that mandates the use of carburetor restrictor plates - the other being Daytona Int'l Speedway.
