LG Electronics Inc. Chooses Airbiquity Inc.'s aqLink Software Modem for Use in Telematics Products

BAINBRIDGE ISLAND, Wash.--Sept. 24, 2004--Airbiquity(R) Inc., a leading provider of mobile data communications software solutions, and LG Electronics, a major global player in electronics, information and telecommunications, today announced that LG Electronics will use Airbiquity's patented aqLink(R) software modem in their telematics products.

Telematics refers to automobile systems that combine Global Positioning System, or GPS, satellite tracking and wireless communications for automatic roadside assistance and other services. LG Electronics supplies telematics platforms to some of the world's largest auto manufacturers for installation in a wide range of vehicles. Airbiquity's aqLink technology is currently widely deployed and used by some of the largest automotive manufacturers in their telematics services.

Telematics providers can "go digital" by implementing Airbiquity's aqLink technology to transport high value information from the automobile to the Telematics Service Provider (TSP) through any cellular network. Whether the content is location data, automatic crash notification, or remote diagnostics, using aqLink provides the widest possible coverage and an efficient means of transporting such data. By integrating aqLink into the telematics platform, customers can reliably transmit critical data through any wireless network (GSM, CDMA, TDMA, iDEN or AMPS).

"Airbiquity is pleased to be working with LG Electronics," said Kamyar Moinzadeh, chief technology officer (CTO) for Airbiquity. "LGE's leadership position in the telematics market coupled with our aqLink technology will create value for telematics service providers and automotive manufacturers."

"We are also pleased to work with Airbiquity," said Soung Hyun Um, vice president of Digital Media Research Laboratory. "From the origin of the word 'Telematics', we are able to surmise how important telecommunication feature is in this telematics business. In particular, data transportation technology through wireless modem is one of the key features. Hence, we expect that Airbiquity's technology leadership will enhance the quality of our product."
