SSP Results from 9-23-04: HODENTT WINS SPRINT CAR SEASON FINALE ON THURSDAY NIGHT



  

NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (September 23, 2004) – Greg Hodnett  closed the 2004 Sprint 
Car season at Susquehanna Speedway Park with his fourth  win of the season.  
In other action  Larry Hughes Jr. won the Xtreme Enduro Stock Car feature  
event. 
Hodnett started ninth in the 25-lap Sprint Car  feature event, but chased 
tenth place starter Lance Dewease up through the  field.  Dewease took the lead 
from  race long leader Brent Kluge on the eighth lap, but lost the top spot to 
Hodnett  on the 11th circuit.  Hodnett stayed in front through the remainder 
of the distance to best  Dewease for the $2500 victory.  The  win was Hodnett’s 
sixth career SSP win.  The win also kept Hodnett third in the final point  
standings. 
Dewease finished second to claim second spot in the  points, with 12th 
starter, and 2004 SSP point champion Fred Rahmer  third.  Blane Heimbach came from 
the  14th starting spot to take fourth, with Dave Cordier Jr. fifth.  Rounding 
out the top ten were Josh  Wells, Eric Stambaugh, Cory Haas, Kevin Nouse, and 
Scott Lutz.  Heats went to Wells, Dewease and Rahmer,  with Stambaugh taking 
the consolation event. 
Hughes started fourth in the 20-lap Xtreme Enduro  Stock Car feature, and 
took the lead from Greg Miller on the third lap.  Hughes outdistanced the field 
in the non  stop contest, with Alan Miller getting second.  Pat Hires, Mike 
Goodwin, and Bob Bender  completed the top five.  Heats went  to Hughes and 
Ronnie Thomas, with Goodwin taking the Pepsi Challenge Dash.  With his eighth place 
finish Charlie  Pensinger wrapped up the 2004 Xtreme Enduro Stock Car point  
title. 
Thursday night’s event marked the final race of the  2004 regular season for 
the Susquehanna Speedway Park.  A  longer distance enduro race is tentatively 
planned for Saturday afternoon,  November 20.  Details and entry  forms will 
be released within the next few weeks. 
There is no racing scheduled for  the month of October at SSP as a Haunted 
Hayride will take place on Fridays  & Saturdays, October 15, 16, 22, 23, 29 & 
30.  This one mile trip around the SSP  property will provide thrills and chills 
for all ages.  The highlight of the ride will be the  action in the haunted 
woods behind the track.  Advance tickets and group reservations  are encouraged 
and available by calling (717) 292-1696.  Rides for children will begin ½ 
hour  before dusk and the last ride will be at 11:00  p.m.
