After several assignments at the St. Louis and Van Nuys, Calif., plants, he was appointed divisional program manager at the GM Assembly Division headquarters in Warren, Mich. He was then assigned to the Cadillac Division as general superintendent of the Detroit-Hamtramck Plant and transferred to the Lansing Craft Centre in Lansing, Mich., as operations manager. In 1990, Schwarz was named to lead manufacturing for GM Electric Vehicles. He joined the GM Truck Group in 1993 and became VLE of Commercial Trucks and Vans in 1996.
