CASCAR CARQUEST Series: Kawartha Finale Summary & Results
CARQUEST Series Kawartha Speedway: Summary & Results September 18, 2004 Hathaway takes Kawartha battle, but Graham wins the war FRASERVILLE, ON - On Saturday afternoon at Kawartha Speedway, Jason Hathaway did everything he could to try and catch series points leader Brad Graham in the hunt for the CARQUEST Series championship. Hathaway earned the pole during qualifying for the 100-lap CARQUEST Series season finale, and led eventual second-place finisher Graham for the entire race distance, en route to his third checkered flag of the season. In the end, however, Hathaway came up just short of Graham in the chase for the title. Hathaway's E.L Fordham / TSC Stores Chevy was the class of the field at Kawartha. The Appin, ON racer was able to stretch out comfortable margins over Graham's HB Material Handling Dodge, which ran safely in second for most of the race. Behind them, however, Mike Hryniuk, Doug Graham and Mike Gold put on a spirited battle for third. The veteran Hryniuk, from LaSalle, ON, was able to hold off Graham and Gold to claim the final podium position for the second week in a row in his One Stop Auto Pontiac. For Graham, who hails from Glencoe, ON, second place was good enough for him to edge out Hathaway for the CARQUEST Series points championship. In doing so, Graham joins CASCAR legend Steve Robblee as the only other person to win the coveted CARQUEST Series title. Robblee won the championship for the first four years of its existence. Third-place in the points went to CARQUEST Chevy driver Andre Coursol of St-Jerome, QC. The CASCAR Super Series will conclude its 2004 season with a 250-lap race at Kawartha on Sunday afternoon. Qualifying takes place at 12:30 p.m. and the green flag is scheduled to fly at 2:30 p.m. Three-time and defending National champion Don Thomson Jr. enters the event with a 17-point lead over two-time Super Series title winner Peter Gibbons. Thomson has won both prior Super Series races at Kawartha.
