Grand-Am Cup Point Leader Craig Stanton Excited About Battle

HOMESTEAD, Fla., September 17, 2004 - When Craig Stanton last left
Homestead-Miami Speedway (HMS) he did so with a sweep of the two Grand
American Road Racing Association races held here. He drove to victory in
both the SGS class of the Rolex Sports Car Series and the overall win in
the Grand-Am Cup Series. Then, by his side in Grand-Am Cup was Terry
Borcheller, Gainesville, Ga., in the No. 44 TheRaceSite.com Porsche 911
GT3 Cup entry. Now, the duo that won the first three races before
Borcheller left to join another team, are on opposite sides of the
Grand-Am Cup championship battlefield. Stanton now races with David
Murry, Cumming, Ga., and the multiple-series teammates have added an
additional event to the wins' category in the No. 44 since combining.
Entering tomorrow's Grand-Am Cup 250 at HMS, Stanton holds a six point
led in the championship with four races and 140 points remaining.

Stanton's Porsche has regularly out-performed every other driver/car
combination in the GS class losing points to Borcheller only when, due
to a prior commitment with Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing
in the American Le Mans Series, he missed the most recent round at
Mid-Ohio. No future conflicts are expected in Stanton's quest for his
first Grand-Am Cup title and he is more eager than ever to take the
fight directly to Borcheller. Saturday's 250-mile or three hour race
will start at 2:45 pm (ET). The race can be seen on SPEED at 10 pm (ET).

Craig Stanton: "The rest of the season is going to be a lot of fun with
the point's battle. People kept telling me we had this thing wrapped-up
and I'd just tell them 'hold on there'. Then we missed Mid-Ohio because
I had a commitment to Petersen Motorsports/ White Lightning Racing in
Canada. I was driving the second stint and, unlike Terry, there was no
way I could do that and still make it to Mid-Ohio. That was
disappointing but now Grand American has a great story they'll be able
tell! We'll be working the rest of the season to take the championship
and I'm excited about that. It should be really exciting for the fans to
watch too. David and I are driving great together and the Nonnamakers
have been tuning the No. 44 Porsche to get it ready for this battle. If
we can stay on top, no one will ever be able to say we backed into this
title. I hope everyone keeps the people of Florida in mind. This has
been a tough hurricane season for them and maybe this race will give
them something else to think about."
