Motor Press Guild Calls for Dean Bachelor Award Nominations
The Motor Press Guild Is Accepting Nominations for Its Annual Dean Bachelor Award
LOS ANGELES, Sept. 16 -- The Dean Batchelor Awards are given annually by the MPG in recognition of outstanding current achievements by automotive writers, photographers, and broadcasters. The award is presented to the journalist judged to have produced the single piece of work which best represents the professional standards and excellence symbolized by the career and life of Dean Batchelor.
The deadline for all entries is September 30, 2004. All entries must have been published or aired within the past 12 months. The work must be in English and about automobiles, the automobile industry, or those individuals involved in the industry. While the work need not be produced by a member of MPG, all entries must be accompanies by a letter from a MPG member in good standing formally nominating the work. The Dean Batchelor Award was established in 1995 and annually recognizes outstanding achievements by automotive writers, photographers and broadcasters. It was named in honor of one of the icons of automotive journalism whose passion for automobiles led him to many positions at various magazines in the industry and also to author several definitive books. In addition, Batchelor was actively involved in motorsports, designing and building the "So-Cal Streamliner" racecar that was used as inspiration for the award.
The Los Angeles-based Motor Press Guild (MPG) is a non-profit professional association dedicated to promoting education and information exchange within the motoring press. MPG currently has some 721 members made up of journalists, public relations representatives, and motoring-related firms and organizations
