2005 Honda Pilot Overview, Prices and EPA Data
For 2005, the Honda Pilot sets the segment benchmark again with an all-new 250 horsepower engine with Drive by Wire (DBW) Throttle System and a multitude of interior enhancements that highlight Honda durability, quality and refinement. The Pilot continues to lead the sport utility segment as the ultimate SUV for family adventure.
The 2005 Honda Pilot features an advanced 3.5-liter, SOHC, 24-valve, 60-degree, V-6 engine, aluminum-block-and-head design that is compact, light and powerful. A wide variety of technologies have been engineered to provide 250 horsepower, a broad and flat torque curve, very low emissions, high fuel efficiency and instantaneous throttle response. The more powerful engine is coupled with an innovative drive-by-wire throttle system, which reduces overall weight by incorporating the cruise control function, and helps to reduce shift shock by communicating with the transmission during up and down shifts. The Pilot DBW system replaces a conventional throttle cable arrangement with an all-electronic system that senses the accelerator pedal position and relays that information to a computer.
All Pilot trim levels receive revised 4th and 5th gear ratios providing a smoother transition between gears, along with a new fuel tank design, increasing the Pilot's driving range by over 40 miles.
With its versatile eight-passenger interior, advanced V-6 engine and VTM-4 four-wheel drive system, the Honda Pilot is the best all-around performer in its competitive set. In keeping with Honda's longstanding commitment to environmental leadership, the Pilot also achieves the highest combined fuel economy in its class while meeting stringent Ultra Low Emissions Vehicle (ULEV-2) standards.
Building on Honda's 'Safety for Everyone' commitment, the all-new 2005 Pilot features Vehicle Stability Assist (VSA) standard on EX with Leather models, the addition of a driver seat position sensor and passenger seat weight sensor that correspond to front airbag deployment.
The Honda Pilot also includes a large assortment of additional creature comforts. These highlights include a revised instrument panel with added ambient lighting, the addition of a driver footrest, a new integrated remote key fob and a new magnesium frame steering wheel. EX and EX with Leather models include a new 6-disc CD changer and an improved sunroof with wind deflector for EX with Leather trims.
The Honda Pilot hosts a myriad of prestigious awards from the automotive industry, such as:
- Car and Driver "5Best Truck" (3rd consecutive year)
- Intellichoice "Best Value of the Year"...
- Edmunds.com "Most Wanted SUV"
- AMI Auto World "World Family Vehicle of the Year"
- Kelley Blue Book "Top 50 Most Popular Cars"
The Pilot is manufactured by Honda Canada Manufacturing in Alliston, Ontario using domestic and globally-sourced parts.
