Two North Texas Museums Receive Grants from the Nissan Foundation

IRVING, Texas--Sept. 10, 2004--The Nissan Foundation, a non-profit, charitable giving arm of Nissan North America, Inc. (NNA), awarded $25,000 in grants to two non-profit organizations in North Texas. The National Cowboys of Color Museum and Hall of Fame in Fort Worth received $15,000 and the International Museum of Cultures in Dallas was given $10,000 during a ceremony at Nissan's campus in Irving.

"The Nissan Foundation is committed to supporting organizations like these two North Texas museums that celebrate diverse cultural heritage as a means to promote respect for others and enrich communities," said Chris O'Bannion, board member, Nissan Foundation and senior manager, consumer credit and risk, Nissan Motor Acceptance Corporation in Dallas. "We recognize the difference they are making and appreciate their emphasis on diversity."

The National Cowboys of Color Museum will use the grant to educate students on the contributions of African-American, Hispanic, and Native American cowboys in the settling of the western United States.

"The National Cowboys of Color Museum and Hall of Fame is most appreciative of the Nissan Foundation donation," said Jim Austin, museum founder. "Through its (Nissan Foundation) generous donation, the museum is able to offer free workshops to students who might not be able to attend this type of program or even visit a museum without assistance."

The Nissan Foundation grant will allow the International Museum of Cultures to provide a special exhibit: "Sights and Sounds of Southeast Asia" that will let children experience other cultures through art, drama, dance, and music.

"We are very grateful to the Nissan Foundation for this wonderful gift to enhance our multi-cultural program," said Nona Fisher, chair, International Museum of Cultures. "This generous gift will allow us to create greater appreciation for ethnic and cultural diversity thereby furthering mutual respect and understanding between people."
