AltWheels Alternative Transportation Fest Sept. 18 -19
WHAT: AltWheels Alternative Transportation Festival, New England’s
largest gathering of environmentally-friendly vehicles, fuel systems,
experts and innovators
WHEN: Saturday – Sunday, September 18 - 19; 10:00 am – 5:00 pm
WHERE: Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation, 15 Newton St.,
Brookline, MA
WHY: The AltWheels Festival is a one-stop showcase for the best
alternative transportation options available in New England – including
fleets that use alternative vehicles, concept vehicles and commercially
available options.
AltWheels showcases more than 100 alternative vehicles for an exciting mix
of test drives, workshops, and family-friendly fun and games. Displays
include personal transportation options – the Segway HTTM, bikes, electric
scooters – and alternative passenger vehicles, including popular hybrid
models, solar-powered and electric cars, and vehicles that run on used
vegetable oil. The latest future design vehicles from Ford (including the
2005 Ford Escape—the first American SUV hybrid), GM, Honda, Toyota, and
Solectria, CNG vehicles, vintage cars, and mini-cars are also displayed. An
auction of a 2004 Toyota Prius with GPS navigation system and
top-of-the-line sound system will send the highest bidder home in style.
Workshops and panels with more than 50 speakers round out the explorations
of alternatives to the fossil fuel dependent car culture.
New England’s First Alternative Transportation Caravan.
From the Larz Anderson Museum of Transportation
More than 25 alternative vehicles will parade from Brookline’s Larz Anderson
Museum to Cambridge to showcase sustainable, clean transportation. The
vehicles will assemble at the Larz Anderson Museum at 4:00 p.m. and begin
the five mile route at 5:00 p.m. The public is invited to come free of
charge to MIT’s Kresge Lot at 6:00 p.m. to see and learn about the latest
innovations, as well as some historical examples, in alternative
transportation. The caravan
includes solar cars, hybrids, CNG and biodiesel fueled vehicles, a Stanley
Steamer, and New England’s first home built fuel cell vehicle.
ADMISSION: Admission to the AltWheels Festival (Saturday & Sunday) is $10
per adult (includes re-entry pass for 2nd day), and includes both the lawn
