SAN FRANCISCO, Sept. 8 -- PlanetOut Inc., a global online media company serving the gay and lesbian market, today announced a call for entries for the 6th annual PlanetOut Short Movie Awards, presented by Scion and hosted by the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival. The PlanetOut Short Movie Awards (www.movieawards.planetout.com and www.movieawards.gay.com), the largest online awards honoring film and video shorts by, about and of interest to gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender (GLBT) audiences, has been an international platform for top gay and lesbian filmmakers.
"The Miami Gay & Lesbian Film Festival (MGLFF) has always been a great venue for the Short Movie Awards," said PlanetOut Inc. Senior Director of Programming and Editor-in-Chief Beth Callaghan. "Being one of the major gay and lesbian film festivals in the United States, it is the perfect place, along with PlanetOut.com and Gay.com, for participating filmmakers to get exposure. We are also extremely grateful for Scion's support this year."
"We are thrilled to work once again with PlanetOut and are delighted that Scion has come on board to foster, nurture and support GLBT filmmakers," said MGLFF Program Director Carol Coombes. "The Short Movie Awards is a great way to bring innovative shorts to a national audience."
PlanetOut.com and Gay.com members who vote for the audience awards in February will automatically be entered in a sweepstakes to win a Scion car. Members will also have an opportunity to screen the winners online in March.
"Scion is proud to sponsor this important opportunity for GLBT filmmakers," said Scion National Sales Promotion Manager Brian Bolain. "Presenting the PlanetOut Short Movie Awards is an exciting way for Scion to further extend its support of the creative arts."
One Grand Prize winner and five First Prize winners in the categories of drama, comedy, documentary, experimental, and animation will be selected by the PlanetOut.com Short Movie Awards jury among 25 finalists. The grand prize winner will receive $10,000 and the category winners will each receive prizes of $1,000. The prizewinning films will be screened at a special program and awards presentation on April 24 at the Miami Gay and Lesbian Film Festival, which runs April 22 - May 1, 2005.
