Broken Gear Costs Stremme Top Five Run in California

Fontana, CA (September 5, 2004) – David Stremme started 12th but finished a
disappointing 36th in the Target House 300 at California Speedway this weekend.
At the drop of the green, Stremme drove the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge into the fourth
position by lap 13. Stremme maintained position inside the top five until the
first pit stop, under green flag conditions, on lap 45. But just before
Stremme entered the pits his water temperature soared to 280 degrees due to a piece
of trash that had blown up from the track and covered the grill.

“The TRIMSPA Dodge was really strong at the beginning of the race,” said
Stremme. “The team gave me an excellent green flag stop and I thought we were
headed for another top finish.”

Following his first stop Stremme remained inside the top five despite the
motor losing power slightly due to the earlier overheating. Under the first
caution of the day Stremme and Team TRIMSPA completed two stops in order to refill
the radiator. Stremme restarted 22nd on lap 64 and continued to climb through
the field, into the 10th position by lap 79. But a comeback was not in cards
for Stremme due to a broken gear, a very rare mechanical failure, causing him
to retire on lap 106. Stremme finished the day in 36th position.

“The guys on the TRIMPSA Team gave me a great car today. We just couldn’t
buy a break,” said Stremme, who finished 26th at California Speedway in the
spring. “California just hasn’t been good to us. I can’t wait until Richmond
next weekend. We had a great test there and hopefully we can leverage it to get
back on track.”

Next weekend Stremme and Team TRIMSPA will compete in the Emerson Radio 250
at Richmond International Raceway, Friday, September 10. The event will be
televised live at 8 p.m. eastern time on TNT and will broadcast nationally at that
same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM
Satellite Radio Channel 144.
