Tony Pedregon Vaults Into Provisional Third
Quaker State Racing Makes a Solid Statement
INDIANAPOLIS (Sept. 4, 2004) Tony Pedregon and the Quaker State Racing
Monte Carlo Nitro Funny Car blistered the Indianapolis Raceway Park quarter
mile during tonightıs third session of qualifying for this weekendıs 50th
annual U.S. Nationals.
Pedregon moved through the second night session of the weekend with a
4.823-second elapsed time at 315.64 mph. It was a pass that buoyed the team.
³It was a pretty good run,² Pedregon noted. ³We were a little conservative
because we wanted to get into the show. We know this car has quite a bit
left in it, but since this was the final night session of the weekend, and
the conditions were pretty good, we couldnıt afford not to really gamble.
Weıre moving in the right direction and Iım really excited about the next
two days.²
Pedregon has a busy day tomorrow, lining up against Gary Scelzi in the first
round of the $100,000 to win Skoal Showdown.
³Iım really looking forward to tomorrowıs Showdown,² said Pedregon, who will
have lane choice in round one. ³Gary is a hard one, especially in the first
round. I love this race because itıs such a financial gain for the team that
wins.²
Quaker State Racing Notebook:
STILL GOING STRONG: Tony Pedregonıs resounding qualifier tonight may allow
the California resident to record a fourth-straight, top half of the field
effort. He is also shooting for his 12th top-half qualifier of the 2004 NHRA
