AGT GOES SOUTH FOR HOLIDAY WEEKEND

Wilton, CT- The American GT Challenge series will celebrate the Labor Day weekend competing in the Stock Car Spectacular by Hardees at Virginia International Raceway. The AGT event will take place on Sunday afternoon. Entries from the United States, Canada and Puerto Rico will compete for the event victory.

The visit to VIR marks the inaugural trip to the circuit for AGT. Teams, sponsors and AGT staff are pleased to be going. "VIR is a historic, natural terrain road course," said Todd Benne, Director of Operations for AGT. "The facility is acknowledged as one of the premier locations for road racing with history dating back some forty years. The AGT looks forward to adding to that history book."

The AGT series will compete using the Full Course, measuring 3.27 miles in length. Along the course drivers will contend with such corners as Roller Coaster, Climbing Esses, Oak Tree and many others. A fifty minute event will be conducted by the AGT with a full field of entries. 

With the absence of AGT points leader Jack Busch from the VIR event, Charlie Webster (second in points) and Edison Lluch (third in points) look to move up the standings with a good showing at VIR. "I think we will do well this weekend," said Edison Lluch [number 72 Don Q/Eltuque Hotel and Resort Corvette]. "I plan to take the points lead back home to Ponce, Puerto Rico and make them chase me around my home track in October."

"We are really enjoying ourselves in AGT," commented Charlie Webster [number 95 C.J. Webster of Canada Corvette]. "To be third in the points is terrific. I intend to do my best and get as many points out of VIR as I can so when we go to Puerto Rico our team has a crack at the first ever American GT Challenge series championship."


John Finger [number 14 John Finger Mazda Mustang] returns to the series. Finger won the inaugural AGT event in April at Carolina Motorsports Park. Finger competes regularly at VIR and looks for homefield advantage. "There is a good field of cars for this event," noted Finger. "Hopefully with my experience around the track things will go our way and we’ll find the victory stand."

Other notables in the field include Glenn Andrew making his AGT debut in the number 19 Terre Haute Financial Bank Camaro, Joe Hooker returns in the Turn One Motorsports Monte Carlo, and several other teams. The AGT event takes place on Sunday at 1:30pm for a fifty minute timed race.

The American GT Challenge uses purpose built tube frame chassis cars, power by a V-8 & V-6 engine, with composite bodies, replicating series produced American touring or grand touring cars competing exclusively on Goodyear Racing Tires. For more information visit www.americangt.com.
