ExxonMobil Promotes Gasoline Conservation Campaign in California

California Consumers Are Encouraged to 'Flex Power at the Pump'

TORRANCE, Calif., Sept. 1 -- ExxonMobil today announced plans to host the second of two events to encourage California consumers to conserve gasoline consumption in order to save money and contribute to a healthy economy.

As part of the State of California's "Flex Your Power at the Pump" campaign, ExxonMobil will host George Plescia, San Diego Assembly Member, Greg Newhouse, Chairman of the San Diego Clean Cities Coalition Board, and other government representatives as they promote the following actions to help consumers reduce their fuel consumption:

   * Keep the pressure on -- keep tires properly inflated and regularly
      maintain your vehicle.
   * Don't be too cool -- use your air conditioning selectively.
   * Drive smarter -- observe the posted speed limits; it's safer and saves
      gasoline.

In addition, representatives of the San Diego Miramar College Automotive Department will be available at the events to conduct tire checks, handout campaign materials, and help answer consumer questions about fuel conservation.

"ExxonMobil is pleased to partner with the State's energy conservation campaign," said Mark Shores, Director, Retail Sales for the U.S. "Conservation and the efficient use of energy are critically important to our business. As energy demands increase, improved efficiency works to help keep energy affordable. In the same way that we concentrate our efforts on energy efficiency practices at our facilities around the world, the campaign encourages consumers to take a similar approach with their driving practices, which saves consumers money in the process."

ExxonMobil will host the second of two "Flex Your Power at the Pump" campaign events on Thursday, September 2, 2004 beginning at 1:00 PM at the Mobil service station located at 12849 Rancho Penasquitos Boulevard in San Diego, CA.

"In the end, actions such as keeping tires properly inflated and driving within the speed limit are good practices," added Shores. "These practices not only provide economic benefits, but help drivers remain safe -- which is a priority that we stress in the workplace and at home."

In addition to hosting the two events, ExxonMobil designed and contributed 1,000 "Flex Your Power at the Pump" posters to State of California offices to help deliver the conservation message.
