New Vice President Named at BMW Manufacturing Co.

SPARTANBURG, S.C., Sept. 1 -- Peter Giliam has been named vice president of Total Vehicle Quality Management responsible for engineering and quality at BMW Manufacturing Co. He succeeds Peter Tuennermann, who has returned to Munich to work at BMW's Research and Innovation Center.

Giliam has most recently been general manager of Quality and Launch at BMW's Rosslyn plant in South Africa where he worked closely with engineering associates to merge two departments related to quality and launch. Prior to being general manager, Giliam managed the entire manufacturing process including the Body, Paint, Assembly and Engine departments.

Giliam joined BMW in 1983 after graduating with an honors degree in automotive engineering and project management from the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He has held a variety of positions at BMW facilities in Munich, Germany; Birmingham, England and Rosslyn, South Africa.

Giliam spent his first 10 years with BMW at the engineering center at the Rosslyn plant. After working in the laboratories, he became manager of Engineering and Testing before managing the Assembly department. From the Rosslyn plant, Giliam became director of Assembly at the Birmingham plant in England when BMW produced Rovers. He then returned to the Rosslyn plant in South Africa where he has been for the past four years.
