RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP
Indianapolis – (August 31, 2004) The American Speed Association (ASA)
returned to the Milwaukee Mile for the first time since 2000 over the weekend.
Qualifying for the ASA National Tour was rained out on Saturday and the
starting field for Sunday was lined up by the current point standings.
Ringers supporter Kevin Cywinski started on the pole with fellow Ringers
driver Mike Garvey to his outside.
Unfortunately, second was the highest Garvey would see all day. He was in
and out of the No. 17 Jani-King pits throughout the 200-lap race.
Wisconsin-native Bryan Reffner and his No. 80 Menards/Morton Salt Chevrolet
wound up in the Winner’s Circle in the end.
This was Reffner’s first win since 1995 and his third career ASA victory.
Ringers racers rounded out the top three with Kevin Cywinski in second and
Toby Porter in third.
Other Ringers notables in the field were Butch Miller, eighth; Reed
Sorenson, 15th; Curtis VanDerWal, 19th; Rich Loch, 20th; Mike Garvey, 23rd; Greg
Stewart, 27th; Todd Kluever, 30th and Peter Cozzolino, 40th.
The NASCAR Nextel Cup Series only has two races (Fontana, Calif. and
Richmond, Va.) left before the Chase to the Nextel Cup takes over.
One of the Penske Racing South drivers is in the top-10 with hopes of
chasing the Cup.
At the Sharpie 500 at Bristol Motor Speedway on Saturday night, Ryan Newman
jumped up three positions back into the top-10.
Newman’s fourth place qualifying effort and second place finish brings him
one point behind ninth place Bobby Labonte and only eight points behind eighth
place Kevin Harvick.
Newman and his Penske Racing South teammates, Brendan Gaughan and Rusty
Wallace (who announced his retirement after the 2005 season), head to the
California Speedway for the Pop Secret 500.
Stock car racing wasn’t the only thing going on in the racing world over the
weekend.
The Champ Car World Series took to the streets of Montreal for the Molson
Indy Montreal on Sunday.
Bruno Junqueria, of Ringers supporting team Newman-Haas Racing, brought home
his first victory of the year.
Other Ringers notables in the field were Alex Tagliani, Rocketsports Racing
in seventh; Jimmy Vasser and Roberto Gonzalez of PKV Racing in eighth and
10th, respectively; Justin Wilson, Mi-Jack/Conquest Racing 14th and Junqueria’s
teammate at Newman-Haas Racing, Sebastien Bourdais in 15th.
The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) returns to action this weekend at
the 50th anniversary Mac Tools U.S. Nationals in Indianapolis starting
Wednesday, September 1.
Be sure to check out the Ringers “Glove Shack” on the Manufacturer’s Midway
at every NHRA national event in 2004.
