NOTES OF INTEREST: The Hantz Group 200 marks the 56th appearance of the ARCA RE/MAX Series at Toledo Speedway since 1963. The event at Toledo also kicks off a grueling 3-race grind that will showcase the series at 3 very different track types all within the space of 9 days. Immediately following Toledo, the teams steer for the DuQuoin IL mile-dirt on Labor Day Monday, September 6 for the Southern Illinois 100. No sooner than that's over, it's off to the 1.5-mile Chicagoland Speedway in Joliet IL for the ReadyHosting.com 200 Saturday afternoon, September 11, also LIVE on SPEED. More than 40 drivers from 14 states are entered in the Friday night, under-the-lights, Toledo short-track classic including 5-time series champion Frank Kimmel, who is the all-time ARCA RE/MAX Series winner at Toledo with 7 victories. Kimmel is also the only previous RE/MAX Series Toledo race winner entered. In 4 previous Toledo starts, third-generation driver Jason Jarrett has finished 2nd three times while Kimmel has won 5 of the last 7 events there. Other winners at Toledo through the years include Bobby Bowsher, Benny Parsons, Blaise Alexander, Iggy Katona, Bill Venturini, Ramo Stott, Andy Hampton and Bob Strait to name a few. 1988 series champion Tracy Leslie has filed an entry. It will be Leslie's first RE/MAX Series attempt in 3 years. In addition, the entry list has a lot of 2nd-generation ARCA flavor including 2003 Toledo late model champion Brian Keselowski, whose father Bob Keselowski was the RE/MAX Series champion in 1989 and a former Toledo late model track champion too. Billy Venturini, currently 3rd in series points, is a 3rd-generation racer whose father Bill Venturini was a 2-time series champion in '87 & '91. Todd Bowsher is another next-generation ARCA racer whose father Jack Bowsher earned series titles in '63, '64 & '65. Michael Simko, also entered, is the son of series veteran Dave Simko. Bobby Dotter has also filed an entry. Dotter's father, the late Bob Dotter, won series titles in '80, '83 & '84. Brian Campbell, son of RE/MAX Series winner and 10-time Berlin late model champion Fred Campbell, will make his series debut at Toledo. Other notable drivers entered include 2-time Daytona ARCA 200 winner Bobby Gerhart, 2nd in points Brent Sherman, 16-year-old rookie Josh Allison, Pryor OK driver Christi Passmore and 2-time ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series champion Robbin Slaughter. 16 RE/MAX Series races at Toledo have been won from the pole including back in May of this year when Ken Schrader did it. The race for ARCA Rookie of the Year is exceptionally close with Sparks NV driver TJ Bell holding a slim 10-point lead over Galesburg IL driver AJ Fike. Fike won the Pork Pole on the Springfield mile-dirt last Sunday.
