Team 7-Eleven's Kanaan Qualifies Third at Nazareth

        NAZARETH, Pa. (Aug. 28, 2004) - Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan turned a
qualifying lap of 166.591 miles per hour (20.2052 seconds) in the #11 Team 7-Eleven
Dallara/Honda/Firestone today at Nazareth Speedway, which earned him the third starting
position for Sunday afternoon's running of the Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series Firestone
Indy 225.
        At the time of his qualifying effort, Kanaan recorded the fastest speed and held the pole
position. However, Helio Castroneves and Sam Hornish Jr. each made quicker runs later in the
session to wrap up both of the front-row berths.
        Kanaan enters Sunday's event atop the IndyCarŽ Series point standings, leading
Indianapolis 500 winner Buddy Rice by 68 points (463-395).
        Castroneves earned the pole position with a speed of 167.396 miles per hour (20.1080
seconds). He will start alongside Hornish Jr., who registered a speed of 167.100 miles per hour
(20.1436 seconds), followed by Kanaan. ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti is fourth with a speed of
165.684 miles per hour (20.3158 seconds) and Darren Manning will start fifth with a speed of
165.609 miles per hour (20.3250 seconds).
        The Firestone Indy 225, Round 13 of the 2004 IRL IndyCar Series, is set to go green at
2:25 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, with ABC Sports providing live broadcast coverage of the 225-lap
event beginning at 2 p.m. (EDT).

Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
        "I would have liked to have been on the pole but the Team 7-Eleven car ran well. We just
had a little too much understeer. I do like the way it feels for the race and I think we'll have a
strong run tomorrow. The best way to win championships is to win races, so that's what we're
trying to do."

        "Nazareth is a really tough little race track and it's all about getting the car balanced
perfect. The IndyCarŽ Series is so competitive that you have to have your car very close to
perfect to sit on the front row. We didn't quite get the Team 7-Eleven car absolutely perfect, but I
still think Team 7-Eleven has done a great job this weekend. I feel good about our race car
balance and, when it's all said and done, it's all about the race. You don't get points for winning
the pole position, but it's great for track position. It will be a tough race tomorrow, but I think
we're in a position to make sure that we'll have a competitive car all day."
