best lap of 161.050 miles per hour on the first day of practice today for the Firestone Indy

Herta, who heads into Sunday's 225-lap event ranked ninth in the Indy Racing
LeagueŽ (IRL) IndyCarŽ Series standings, battled handling and brake issues in the
morning practice session before the XM Satellite Radio crew made a few adjustments
prior to the afternoon practice.  Herta drove his fastest lap in the afternoon session where
he ran 49 of his 80 laps on the day.
Leading practice today was Helio Castroneves, who turned the fastest lap in the
afternoon at 165.667 miles per hour.  Vitor Meira was second at 165.301 miles per hour,
followed by Herta's Andretti Green teammate Tony Kanaan with a lap of 165.267 miles
per hour.  Sam Hornish Jr. turned a lap at 165.085 miles per hour, and Darren Manning
rounded out the top five with a lap of 164.747 miles per hour.
Andretti Green Racing has won five poles during the 2004 season and eight poles
since joining the IRL in 2003. Kanaan has five of those poles, Dan Wheldon has two and
Dario Franchitti one. The team has won seven of the 12 races run this season.
Qualifications for the Firestone Indy 225 - the 13th race of the 2004 IndyCar Series

Series event at Nazareth Speedway, the IRL's 100th event, will be provided Sunday by

Bryan Herta, #7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We were way, way better in the afternoon.  We had some issues this morning, but
we fixed them and the car was really a lot better.  I'm really happy with the XM Satellite
Radio car, but I feel like we're a session behind because this morning was kind of
wasted.  Overall, the car is very competitive and I'm looking forward to tomorrow."

George Klotz, Team Manager,
#7 XM Satellite Radio Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
"We got started out on the wrong foot this morning, but made a complete recovery.
Bryan's pretty happy with the XM Satellite Radio car.  We made it 100 percent better, the
brakes are better, and we feel like we have a pretty good race car.  We've got a little bit
more work to do, but we'll go into qualifying and try and get up front see what we've got
for the race."
