Hit Bands To Appear At Chevy Rock & Roll 400
Big & Rich And Collective Soul To Perform During Race Weekend
RICHMOND, Va. August 23, 2004; As if the last race before the inaugural NASCAR NEXTEL Cup "Chase for the Championship" wouldn't already be thrilling enough, Chevrolet has added to the excitement of the Chevy Rock & Roll 400 weekend by announcing at-track performances by Big & Rich and Collective Soul at the Richmond International Raceway.
Big & Rich, the country music group that is rapidly climbing the charts with its debut album Horse of a Different Color, will perform prior to the NASCAR Busch Series race on Friday, Sept. 10. The concert will take place at the 10,000-seat Richmond International Raceway amphitheater beginning at approximately 5 p.m.
The popular rock and pop group Collective Soul will perform a track-side show on Saturday, Sept. 11 just prior to the start of the sold-out Chevy Rock & Roll 400. The band has eight number one hits and is currently working on a new studio album that it hopes to release in the fall.
In addition to the free concerts, six Chevy race trucks and cars will carry musical artist themed paint schemes during the triple-header weekend:
NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series race on Thursday, Sept. 9
The No. 47 Chevy All-Stars Silverado driven by NASCAR NEXTEL Cup star Tony Stewart will feature country music star Sara Evans
The No. 6 GM Goodwrench Silverado driven by Matt Crafton, currently fifth in the series points, will be the first of three to feature the legendary rock band KISS NASCAR Busch Series race on Friday, Sept. 10
The No. 99 Aaron's Monte Carlo, driven by Michael Waltrip will feature LeAnn Rimes
The No. 2 ACDelco Monte Carlo, driven by Ron Hornaday will sport the KISS theme Chevy Rock & Roll 400 NASCAR NEXTEL Cup Series race on Saturday, Sept. 11 The No. 30 AOL Monte Carlo, driven by Jeff Burton will feature a Big & Rich paint scheme
The No. 29 GM Goodwrench Monte Carlo, driven by Kevin Harvick will complete the KISS-inspired Chevy lineup
In addition, a rock and roll-themed 2005 Monte Carlo SS will pace the field "We're looking forward to a terrific NASCAR race weekend at Richmond International Raceway," said Mac Whisner, director, Chevrolet promotions and sponsorships. "Top musical talent such as Big & Rich and Collective Soul along with our racing-themed activities, expanded driver lineups with KISS paint schemes, in addition to our existing trackside displays and entertainment, will provide a fun festival atmosphere while offering unprecedented access to our all-new Chevy products." NASCAR artist Sam Bass designed the special KISS paint schemes that will be featured during the weekend. Bass is well known for his dramatic work in both the NASCAR and NHRA circuits. All three of the vehicles are sponsored by GM Service and Parts Operations.
In addition to designing the remaining paint schemes including the Monte Carlo pace car, Action Performance Inc. is producing a complete line of die-cast replica collectibles and other related merchandise that will be available trackside and nationwide through the company's standard distribution channels.

"Fans at Richmond will be able to get up close to our all-new 2005 Cobalt throughout the weekend."
Leading up to the race weekend, Chevrolet is also offering fans the chance to win a 2005 Cobalt SS Supercharged Coupe featuring a 205-hp DOHC Supercharged engine, performance handling suspension, 18-inch wheels and a seven-speaker Pioneer premium sound system. Seating is limited for the Big & Rich performance. Fans must stop by the Chevy Fan Fest on Thursday, Sept. 9 or Friday, Sept. 10 to obtain free credentials for the concert.
The Collective Soul concert will begin at 6 p.m. between turns One and Two in the track's infield. A limited number of free VIP credentials that will allow fans access on the track in front of the stage will be distributed at the Chevy Fan Fest on Saturday Sept. 11 only. The Chevy Fan Fest is located on the south side of the Richmond International Raceway amphitheater.
