U.S. and Canadian Porsche Dealers Set to Launch 2005 Porsche(R) 911(R)
ATLANTA, Aug. 23, 2004 -- All 204 U.S. and Canadian Porsche dealers are poised to welcome the arrival of the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera(R) and 911 Carrera S to their showrooms this Saturday, August 28. In anticipation of the introduction of the first new 911 in six years, these dealers have planned a wide variety of celebrations to unveil the new models to their many customers.
"We share our dealers' excitement over the launch of the 2005 Porsche 911 Carrera and 911 Carrera S," said Peter Schwarzenbauer, president and CEO of Porsche Cars North America Inc. and Porsche Cars Canada Ltd. "Over the past several years, the strong efforts of these dealers have produced Porsche 911 sales records in the United States and Canada of over 60,000 cars. Given the highly enthusiastic early reception to the new models by the media and our customers, we fully expect this next generation of the 911 will provide the impetus to exceed these records."
The new Porsche 911 Carrera and more powerful 911 Carrera S combine the classic 911 silhouette, a trademark of the model for more than 40 years, with new and more aggressive styling. Both models feature Porsche's traditional horizontally opposed flat-six cylinder engines. The 911 Carrera's 3.6-liter unit produces 325 horsepower (SAE) while the 911 Carrera S's larger 3.8-liter power plant develops 355 horsepower (SAE). Both cars also have a newly developed six-speed gearbox and a reworked chassis, which includes active suspension as standard on the S model. Manufacturer's suggested retail price for the 911 Carrera is $69,300 US and $101,400 Canadian and for the 911 Carrera S $79,100 US and $115,650 Canadian.
