Cornice Expands into GPS Market with 2.0-Gigabyte ''Storage Element'': Brings High-Capacity and Portability to the GPS Market

LONGMONT, Colo.--Aug. 2, 20043, 2004--Cornice Inc. -- an innovator in compact, high-capacity storage -- today announced that the Garmin StreetPilot 2620 and 2660 feature the 2.0-gigabyte Cornice Storage Element, enabling these new, small GPS devices to store detailed maps of the entire United States, Canada, and Puerto Rico.

The StreetPilot 2620 and 2660 are portable automotive navigation systems featuring a high-resolution color display, touch-screen technology, ultra-fast map drawing and routing, voice prompt, and remote control capabilities. These cutting-edge portable GPS systems by Garmin incorporate the ideal balance of compact design and high capacity that is characteristic of consumer electronic devices based on the Cornice Storage Element. The StreetPilot 2660 includes the same pre-loaded map coverage as the StreetPilot 2620, and adds a built-in solid-state gyro and a connection to a vehicle odometer system. The technology allows drivers to continue navigating when GPS signals are obscured.

By incorporating the Cornice Storage Element in the new StreetPilot series, Garmin has reinvented the usage model for portable GPS devices. The 2.0-gigabyte Storage Element gives consumers enough storage to hold all available North American maps without having to download maps based on geographic locations, which was required in previous smaller-capacity hand-held GPS devices.

By re-examining the mechanics and electronics of storage devices, Cornice was able to create an inexpensive storage solution that is compact, durable, and optimized for portable electronics. Available in 1.0-,1.5- and 2.0-gigabyte capacities, the Cornice Storage Element remains a key component in some of the most innovative consumer electronic devices introduced in the past year.
