Stewart Clinches 125cc Motocross Title

BINGHAMTON, N.Y. August 22, 2004; The AP reported that James Stewart clinched his second AMA Chevrolet 125cc Motocross title when he won for the ninth time this year Sunday.

The victory was the 26th for Stewart on the AMA 125cc Motocross circuit, tying him with Ricky Carmichael for the most ever.

"This has been an unbelievable year," said Stewart, also the champion in 2002. "It's a great way to close out my career in the 125 class. I'm looking forward to moving up to race with Ricky in the 250s next year."

Carmichael won the 250cc class and is just two victories away from the second undefeated season of his career.
