GMAC/Trenton Forging #5 GTO Road America Pre Race
Elkhart Lake, Wisc. – August 20, 2004 The #5 GMAC / Trenton Forging
GTO will make its first appearance at the historic Road America in
Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin this weekend. The SPEED World Challenge is
appearing with the American Lemans Series at the Road America 500,
August 20-22. Road America is the longest track on the SPEED World
Challenge circuit.
“This is a track that can be hard on equipment,” said driver, Stu
Hayner. “Turning quick laps in practice and qualifying is one thing…
but running at race pace is another story. Even though these are sprint
type races, it’s pretty easy to let the speed go to your head and run
the tires off the car. The track can be hard on brakes too.”
The Series has had 4 races in the last seven weeks. That, coupled with
travel, has made shop time extremely hard to come by. The team has been
traveling almost non-stop since early July. This included a two-week
west coast swing.
“We still haven’t had the time we need to make the changes necessary to
our suspension configuration,” Hayner continued. “We’re going to tackle
that before Atlanta. This past month and a half has been pretty tight
time-wise. The car is coming around nicely and all-in-all, it’s
starting to be a lot of fun to drive.”
The SPEED World Challenge GT race will air August 29 at 1pm EST.
