Stremme to Make First Start at Michigan International Speedway

Brooklyn, MI (August 18, 2004) – David Stremme races for the first time at
Michigan International Speedway in Busch Series competition this weekend. The
27-year-old South Bend, IN native looks to build on the consistency of his
most recent two runs in the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge. Stremme finished seventh at
Pikes Peak and then finished 11th at Indianapolis Raceway Park two weekends ago.
Stremme’s 11th-place finish was only his second finish between eighth and
26th so far this season.
“I have had to be cautious and give up track position to keep from being in
a place where another car can ruin our day,” said Stremme, driver of the
TRIMSPA X32 Dodge. “We have had our share of bad luck this season, but when
something has not taken us out of contention we have run up front. There has not
been much in between. Last weekend at IRP the car was not as fast as I would
have liked, but we played it safe and came home 11th.”
Thus far in 2004 Stremme has earned nine top-10 finishes, four top fives,
plus a pole and a second-place finish in Milwaukee. It is a record as good as
ninth position in the NASCAR Busch Series points, yet Stremme has only
recently climbed into the 16th spot in the standings. Stremme enters this weekend
not in a points battle, but in a quest for his first Busch Series victory.
“At Michigan you just have to stand on the throttle and get it done,” said
Stremme. “I tested there after Texas this year when we were trying to improve
our program at the 1.5-mile and bigger speedways. I have never driven in a
race at MIS before, but it was a lot like Atlanta in its size and speed. I
really like these big tracks and our program has improved significantly on them
over the course of the season.”
In David Stremme’s first and only race at Atlanta Motor Speedway, the then
rookie driver climbed from the rear to the front, starting in 37th position
and finishing 12th. Stremme will look for more of the same performance on the
comparable Michigan International Speedway when Team TRIMSPA competes in the
Cabela’s 250 Saturday, August 21st. The event will be televised live at 1
p.m. eastern time on TNT and will broadcast nationally at that same time on
radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio
Channel 144.
