SURPRISE VISIT NETS ADAMS SSP 358/360 SPRINT WIN
NEWBERRYTOWN, PA (August 15, 2004) – Kenny Adams made a surprise visit to
his old stomping grounds pay off with a win in the 25-lap Trail Motors 358/360
Sprint Car Open Challenge at Susquehanna Speedway Park Sunday on Sunday
evening. In other action Ronnie Thomas claimed his first Xtreme Enduro Stock Car
feature win of the season.
Adams, who moved to Malibar, Fla. a few years ago, was heading home from a
rained out event in Madison, N.C. (311 Speedway) when he received a call that
an aunt had passed away in Pennsylvania. He turned around and headed north,
discovering when he arrived that the Trail Motors Open Challenge race had
been rained out on Thursday and was postponed to Sunday evening.
Making the best of a bad situation, Adams moved forward from his ninth
starting spot to take the lead from race long leader Josh Weller of Mertztown on
the 16th lap. From that point he was home free to his eighth career SSP win.
Weller finished second followed by Blane Heimbach. Alan Krimes and Mike
Bittinger completed the top five. Rounding out the top 10 were Kyle Purks,
Kramer Williamson, Cliff Brian, TJ Stutts, and Keith Prutzman. Heats for the 41
cars went to Chad Trout, Krimes, Heimbach, and Weller. Adam Wilt won the
consolation.
Ronnie Thomas started seventh in the 20 lap Xtreme Enduro feature and became
the third different leader when he took over the top spot on lap seven.
From there Thomas went on to defeat Tom Johns for his first career SSP win. Tom
Slanker, Charlie Pensinger, and Mike Goodwin completed the top five. Heats
went to Bryon Sipe and Slanker, with Pat Hires taking the Pepsi Challenge
Dash.
The next race will be Thursday Night, August 19 as SSP hosts the Pepsi Hot
August Nights featuring a Camera and Autograph Session for fans to meet their
