Rookie Brett Rowe Takes Kil-Kare ARCA Truckers; Championship Points Battle Tight
XENIA OH (8-13-04) ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series rookie Brett Rowe, despite a late-race charge from two-time series champion Chad Guinn, held on to win the Mark Knupp Mufflers & Tires 100 Friday night at Kil-Kare Speedway.
The win for the Barboursville, West Virginia driver boosted his victory total to four series triumphs in only seven series starts.
Furthermore, the unsponsored driver of the #27 Front Rowe Racing Chevy S-10 is now just 10 championship points away from point leader Guinn as the versatile series prepares for stops on the DuQuoin, Illinois mile-dirt followed by a first-ever trip to the 1.1-mile Virginia Int'l Raceway roadcourse.
Kevin Reeb, from the second starting position, led the first lap before Guinn took control on the second circuit. Guinn's lead was short-lived however when Pork Pole winner Rowe, who started sixth by inversion, out-dueled Guinn for the top-spot on lap 15 of the 100-lap event. Rowe stretched his lead for a while, but Guinn caught the eventual winner in the closing laps, but couldn't make the pass.
Reeb and Jeff Wichmann staged a continual battle for third throughout the race before Reeb edged Wichmann at the stripe by inches to earn the third position. Wichmann was fourth followed by John Kasmierski in fifth. Brian Nester, Tully Esterline, Jeff Speakman, Jeff Smith and Brian Rowe completed the top-10 finishers respectively.
Brett Rowe was also the Cloyes Gear Halfway Lap Leader and the Highest Finishing Rookie. Smith earned the Ed & Company Hard Charger award.
With the battle for the championship as close as it is, the ARCA Lincoln Welders Truck Series will open the 2004 DuQuoin State Fair with a 50-lap race on August 28 followed by its trip to Virginia Int'l Raceway on September 4. Events at Toledo Speedway on September 10 and the finale at Salem Speedway on September 18 will conclude the season for the touring truckers wrapping up their sixth consecutive year.
