HERTA FORCED TO START 21ST AT KENTUCKY AFTER ENGINE CHANGE

       SPARTA, Ky. (Aug. 14, 2004) - XM Satellite Radio driver Bryan Herta will
start from the 21st position tomorrow in the Belterra Casino Indy 300 at Kentucky
Speedway as the result of an engine change following the second of two Saturday
practices sessions.
       Per Indy Racing LeagueŽ IndyCarŽ Series rules, Herta was also not allowed to
make a qualifying attempt during this afternoon's qualifying session because the
engine change took place prior to qualifying during a two-day event.
       Herta, who finished third in this event in 2003, posted the 12th fastest overall
speed (214.093 miles per hour, 24.8864 seconds) during Saturday's practice
sessions, which saw him record 87 laps of practice. However, Herta's XM Satellite
Radio team was uncomfortable with some of the data it reviewed following the
session and decided to make the precautionary engine change.
       Buddy Rice went on to win the pole with a speed of 216.016 miles per hour
(24.6648 seconds), while Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan qualified second with a
speed of 215.731 miles per hour (24.6974 seconds). Sam Hornish Jr. will start third
after qualifying at 215.592 miles per hour (24.7134 seconds), Adrian Fernandez
qualified fourth (215.326, 24.7439) and ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti fifth (215.181).
       The Belterra Casino Indy 300 - Round 11 of the 16 race schedule - is set to
go green at 3:45 p.m. (EDT) tomorrow and will air live on ABC.

       "It's disappointing for the XM Satellite Radio team, but those are the rules. It's
not what you want, but we've got a good car and this is a track where the good cars
can get to the front. We'll be alright."
