Rookie Ryan Hemphill Smashes Nashville Track Record; Earns 6th Career ARCA Pork Pole Award.....

 

NASHVILLE TN  (8-13-04)  ARCA RE/MAX Series rookie Ryan Hemphill made just one lap in qualifying; it was all he needed. 



The Apollo, Pennsylvania driver, in the TRIMSPA Dodge, smashed his own one-lap track record Friday afternoon in Pork Pole award qualifying at Nashville Superspeedway. Hemphill qualified with a speed of 164.681 mph surpassing his old mark of 161.369 he set here back in April. It was his sixth career Pork Pole award in only his 12th series attempt.



"It was a great lap; that's for sure," said Hemphill. "It was actually a little tight in the middle of the corner. I'm not sure if that hurt or helped, but what an awesome job these TRIMSPA guys did. They worked hard, dug deep and gave me an exceptional piece to work with. I'm very optimistic about tomorrow." 



Stuart Kirby, reuniting with Bob Schacht Motorsports for this event, qualified second with a speed of 161.952 in his unsponsored Ford Taurus. 

Rookie Joey Miller, making his career-first series attempt in a Matt Hagans Dodge, qualified third at 161.277.



Three-time Nashville winner and current point leader Frank Kimmel, who was fastest in practice earlier in the day, was fourth overall at 161.142 in the Advance Auto Parts-Pork Ford.



Christi Passmore, in the GAP Roofing-Asphalt & Fuel Supply Ford, qualified fifth. Kyle Krisiloff, Walt Brannen, Brent Sherman, Jennifer Jo Cobb and defending race winner Mario Gosselin completed the top-10 respectively.



Chris Moore qualified 29th but made contact with the wall on his second lap, and has withdrawn from the event. He was not injured.



Saturday's Waste Management 200 is LIVE on PEE Channel at 2 pm eastern.
