Modine's Lawrenceburg Plant Achieves 2,900 Days Without a Lost Time Accident
RACINE, Wis.--Aug. 1, 20042, 2004--Modine Manufacturing Company , a world leader in heat transfer technology, announced today a major safety accomplishment at its Lawrenceburg, Tennessee facility, by achieving an amazing eight years without a lost time accident. During this period, no employee at the Lawrenceburg facility has lost any time from work beyond the day of injury, a streak of more than 2,900 days. The record is still ongoing, with the anniversary recognized on August 8, 2004."This is quite an accomplishment for any manufacturing facility," Greg Mansfield, Modine Lawrenceburg Plant Manager said. "Safety is our number one priority for all our 233 employees. We set high standards, provide comprehensive training, and work together with our employees. This is truly a testament to our team."
This record is almost unheard of in the manufacturing industry. According to government statistics, the latest national average from 2002 is approximately two lost-time accidents for every 100 employees per year. Had Lawrenceburg followed that average, it would have had at least 32 lost-time accidents during this eight year time frame.
Last month, Modine's Lawrenceburg facility was named the recipient of the 2004 Award of Excellence for outstanding safety from the Tennessee Department of Labor & Workforce Development. The Commissioner's Award of Excellence honors employers and their employees who have together achieved the required number of hours worked without a lost workday case and have maintained injury and illness incidence rates below the national average. Receiving the Commissioner's Award also qualifies Modine for the Governor's Award of Excellence, to be determined in October of 2004.
Matt Shelton, Modine Lawrenceburg Plant Superintendent said, "We take our side of safety very seriously, putting processes and training into place. And all our employees, three shifts a day, take their side of safety very seriously. Everyone out on the plant floor knows that it is their responsibility. That's the only way we could have accomplished this."
The Lawrenceburg facility produces more than 1,200 aluminum charge-air coolers a day for heavy-duty trucks, 1,800 aluminum oil coolers or layered oil coolers a day for passenger cars, and 250 engine-cooling modules for heavy trucks.
Mansfield said he is proud to add to his facilities safety record. "We also recently marked eight months without a single recordable injury--an all-time record in 25 years of operation here in Lawrenceburg. Safety keeps our operation running at peak efficiency so we can deliver products on time to our customers."
"The Lawrenceburg performance is exemplary within the Division," said Chuck Katzfey, Modine Group Vice President. "Every employee is dedicated to achieving the best performance, and it shows - not only in records like this, but in the way they approach their jobs."
