Sumitomo Corporation Obtains Approval for Hydrogen Storage Fuel Cell System

Tokyo (JCNN) - Sumitomo Corporation has announced that is has obtained Japan's first certification for a 700-bar (10,000psi) pressurized hydrogen storage system for fuel cell vehicles in collaboration with Suzuki in July 2004.

The hydrogen storage system was designed and produced by Quantum Fuel Systems Technologies Worldwide,Inc.

Sumitomo Corporation is acting as the sole agent in Japan for the US-based Quantum Technologies, Inc., an advanced container maker.

To date, Quantum Technologies, Inc. is the only firm in the world that has had its 700-bar hydrogen storage systems certified for use. The approval obtained in Japan marks the third time its 700-bar storage systems have been approved for use, after US and Germany.
