Dilley wins CARQUEST Series race at Barrie Speedway

BARRIE, ON - The CASCAR CARQUEST Series made its inaugural visit to Barrie
Speedway on Saturday night for the CARQUEST 100. The event ended up being a
happy homecoming for Mark Dilley, who was once a co-owner of the
quarter-mile oval. Dilley started on the outside of the front row for the
100-lap race and took the lead from fellow Super Series regular Brad Graham
on lap 4 in the race’s only lead change.
From there, Dilley’s Avenue / Unitane Dodge wasn’t challenged the rest of
the way in the race that was completed without being slowed by a single
caution flag. Graham, who has led in each of the five CARQUEST Series races
this season, went on to finish almost 5.5-seconds behind Dilley in his HB
Material Handling Dodge.
Although there wasn’t a battle for the lead, the fans who packed the
grandstands at Barrie Speedway were treated to spirited racing action
further back. Jason Hathaway ran fifth behind Jesse Kennedy for almost
three-quarters of the race. The E.L Fordham Motors / TSC Stores Chevy
driver was eventually able to get past Kennedy and immediately went to work
on four-time CARQUEST Series champ Steve Robblee, who was running third.
Hathaway, who has won races at Mosport and Ste-Croix so far this season,
managed to pass Robblee to claim the final podium position.
The next CARQUEST Series race takes place Sept. 11 at Peterborough Speedway.
