Pop Art Pioneer Robert Rauschenberg's 'Art Car' to Be Featured Among Classic Automobiles at the Rolex Vintage Festival Presented by BMW

WOODCLIFF LAKE, N.J., Aug. 5, 2004 -- Car enthusiasts, collectors and race fans can look forward to spending this Labor Day weekend with some of the most significant racing and classic cars in the world.

This world-class collection of historic cars, including Robert Rauschenberg's BMW "Art Car" will be the center of attention at the Rolex Vintage Festival Presented by BMW, which takes place at Lime Rock Park in Lakeville, Conn. from September 3rd September 6th.

The Rauschenberg "Art Car" is one of 15 memorable BMWs painted by brilliant art masters such as Roy Lichtenstein, Alexander Calder, Andy Warhol, Jenny Holzer and David Hockney. The "Art Car" series began in 1975 and all the cars have since been displayed in fine museums from the Guggenheim in Manhattan to the Louvre in Paris.

In addition to the BMW "Art Car" other notable displays include a BMW retrospective comprised of a collection of coupes ranging from the winner of the 1940 Mille Miglia road race to the iconic CLSs of the 1970s, to 2004's newest 6 Series. The MINI brand will also be part of the exhibition featuring the brand new MINI convertible and concept vehicles, including a MINI drag racing car.

"BMW owners are car aficionados who love the driving experience and appreciate the art and technology of these significant racing and road cars. We are pleased to celebrate our 75th Anniversary at Lime Rock -- one of the premier Vintage Festivals," said Tom Purves, Chairman and CEO of BMW of North America, LLC.

Additional activities at the Lime Rock Vintage Festival include vintage and historic racing action on September 3rd, 4th and 6th with more than 200 racecars spanning six decades, from pre-war machines to the exotic sports cars of the 1960s and early 1970s.

On September 5th, fans will be treated to a spectacular display of cars, which will be parked along a significant length of the track allowing fans to admire them up close. These displays, a mix of timeless and modern classics, are one of the largest gatherings of fine automobiles of the season.

Lime Rock Park is the premier East Coast roadracing track for some of the world's fastest sports cars. It is also home to timeless vintage and historic racing machines and the world's largest stock car organization. Lime Rock showcases the most renowned racecars and drivers from the past to the present day.
