RINGERS GLOVES WEEKEND WRAP-UP
Indianapolis – (August 3, 2004) The National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) is
past the halfway point of their season and the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series “Chase
to the Championship†is quickly approaching, but there is still plenty of
racing action left to soothe the soul.
Greg Anderson has been tearing up the competition in the NHRA Pro Stock
category in 2004.
At Infineon Raceway in Sonoma, Calif., over the weekend, Anderson brought
home his 12th win of the season (tying his own and NHRA Pro Stock win record)
and fourth consecutive win.
He beat out Ringers NHRA rookie driver Dave Connolly for the second time
this year, with a 6.728/205.51 mph run to Connolly’s 6.758/204.98.
Morgan Lucas (newest supporter of Ringers Gloves) and his Lucas Oil
Special took on Duane Shields in the NHRA Lucas Oil Sportsman Drag Racing Series in
Top Alcohol Dragster finals.
Lucas walked away with the win with a run of 5.279/266.37 mph.
Lucas makes his Top Fuel Dragster debut August 12-15 for Joe Amato Racing
in Brainerd, Minn.
While NHRA was on the West Coast, the drivers of Penske Racing South in
the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series were on the East Coast at Pocono Raceway in
Pennsylvania.
Ryan Newman was the highest finishing of the team. Newman started in the
30th spot, but made a strong run and finished 12th.
Brendan Gaughan had a great qualifying effort in 10th, but was involved in
an accident and finished in the 28th spot. Rusty Wallace qualified just
outside the top 10 in 12th and finished in 17th.
The NASCAR Busch Series and Craftsman Truck Series head to Indianapolis
Raceway Park this weekend for Kroger Speedfest, as the Nextel Cup drivers head
to the famed Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Brickyard 400.
The American Speed Association National Tour (ASA) returned to action at
Indianapolis Raceway Park in Clermont, Ind., on Saturday night.
Ringers racer Mike Garvey picked up his second win of the season in the
Meijer 200 presented by SK Hand Tools.
Other Ringers notables in the field were Kevin Cywinski, third; Toby
Porter, fifth; Reed Sorenson, sixth; Todd Kluever, seventh; Butch Miller, 10th;
Kyle Krisiloff, 15th; Rich Loch, 19th; Peter Cozzolino, 26th and John Dalziel,
30th.
Earlier in the night, the ASA Late Model Series took to the track. Bobby
Stremme of South Bend, Ind., went home with his second win of the season.
