AAA Minnesota/Iowa Awards Grants to Schools for Safety Programs
BURNSVILLE, Minn., Aug. 2, 2004 -- AAA Minnesota/Iowa, through its Midwest Traffic Safety Foundation, awarded $100 grants to 67 schools across the two state region today. This is the third year AAA Minnesota/Iowa has made these grants available to public or private schools to be used for any type of traffic safety activity including school, bus and bike safety.
"At AAA Minnesota/Iowa, we established the Midwest Traffic Safety Foundation in 1998 to educate, promote and advocate for traffic related safety issues," said Jeff Ogden, president of AAA Minnesota/Iowa.
"We educate using traffic safety materials for our School's Open campaign, child passenger safety, school safety patrol, bicycle safety, alcohol awareness and distracted driver issues. We promote traffic safety by offering a wide variety of driver programs, products and services including high quality publications and brochures complemented by our classroom and in-car equipment. We advocate for safer roads as a fundamental part of our responsibility to our members. Issues pertaining to transportation policy and funding as well as traffic safety issues receive our full attention at both state capitols in St. Paul and Des Moines," continued Ogden.
Grant applications were sent to all public and private elementary schools in early May. Schools were asked how the funds would be used and what impact the funds would have on children's safety.
