Mechanical Problems End Franchitti's Day at Michigan

        BROOKLYN, Mich. (Aug. 1, 2004) - ArcaEx driver Dario Franchitti saw his hopes for
a strong performance come to an early end, the result mechanical problems, Sunday
afternoon at the Indy Racing League (IRL) IndyCar® Series  Michigan Indy 400 at Michigan
International Speedway.
        Franchitti started the race from 11th place and piloted the #27 ArcaEx
Dallara/Honda/Firestone into eighth place by lap 50.  He remained in the eighth position, but
was looking to advance higher in the order when, on lap 123, a water leak forced an end to
his day.
        Despite the disappointing result, Franchitti remains sixth in the IndyCar Series
standings.
        Buddy Rice took the victory, while Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan was second
and Klein Tools/Jim Beam driver Dan Wheldon finished third.
        Franchitti and the rest of the IndyCar Series teams return to action August 15 at
Kentucky Speedway for the Belterra Casino Indy 300. The event will be televised live by ABC
Sports, beginning at 3:30 EDT.

        "We made some very big changes to the car before the race which seemed to help. I
think we definitely had a top-five car today. We were making our way through traffic and I
was quite happy as we were making the car better with each stint we ran. Unfortunately, it
wasn't to be as we had a water leak which basically ran the engine out of water."

Allen McDonald, Race Engineer, #27 ArcaEx Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
        "It was definitely a disappointing race for the ArcaEx team. It has been several years
since Dario was last at Michigan International Speedway, so this was a learning experience
for him. By race time, he had a decent race car and it was a shame that we weren't able to
see it through to the finish, as I'm sure we could have finished in the top five."
