AMERICAN GT CHALLENGE SERIES ANNOUNCES IGT CATEGORY CONSIDERATION

Wilton, CT- Today with support from marketing partners, including the Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company, the American GT Road Racing Association, LLC announced the formation of the International GT (IGT) Feasibility Committee.

The intent of the IGT, with focus on International Touring Cars such as Mazda, Porsche, Toyota and Nissan, is to produce an environment similar to what the AGT has accomplished for American Touring Cars; give the IGT an owner, competitor friendly series to race within containing rules that like AGT will be equal for all competitors.

"This opens up new opportunities for our sponsors and new avenues to pursue additional marketing partners," commented Todd Benne, Director of Operations for AGT.

"The AGT looks forward to the challenge of bringing different types of cars together from different countries to race under one format. We were very close out of the box with our AGT rules and we learned a lot from the process that can be applied to an even more diverse group of cars," Woodson Duncan, American GT Challenge President said. 

"When you consider the number of inquiries we have received from competitors with Mazdas, Porches, and Nissans about racing with us you had to ask your self ‘Why?’ It seems that there are few professional sprint races for these cars," Duncan remarked.

The process for instituting an IGT category will be the same as it was for the AGT. The AGT staff will discuss the format through an open dialog with those teams with a genuine interest. If enough competitors are willing to step forward and commit, the AGT will add a separate stand alone race for the IGT cars at the remaining domestic events in 2004 as well as add the new class to the complete 2005 schedule.

The American GT Challenge uses purpose built tube frame chassis cars, power by a V-8 & V-6 engine, with composite bodies, replicating series produced American touring or grand touring cars competing exclusively on Goodyear Racing Tires. For more information visit www.americangt.com.
