                                      Team 7-Eleven's Kanaan
                                 Earns Pole Position At Michigan

        BROOKLYN, Mich. (July 31, 2004) - Team 7-Eleven driver Tony Kanaan turned a
qualifying lap of 215.871 miles per hour (33.3828 seconds) in the #11 Team 7-Eleven
Dallara/Honda/Firestone this afternoon at Michigan International Speedway, which earned him
the pole position for Sunday afternoon's running of the Indy Racing League® IndyCar® Series
Michigan Indy 400.
        This is the first pole-winning performance for Kanaan this season. He earned three
MBNA Pole Awards in 2003 at Homestead-Miami, Phoenix and Pikes Peak. Kanaan, who
currently leads the IndyCar Series point standings, will be making his fourth front row starting
appearance of the year.
        Joining Kanaan on the front row is rookie Kosuke Matsuura, who registered a speed of
214.718 miles per hour (33.5717 seconds), Scott Dixon will start third with a speed of 214.328
miles per hour (33.6214 seconds), Sam Hornish Jr. is fourth at 214.179 miles per hour (33.6974
seconds) and Vitor Meira clocked in at 214.089 miles per hour (33.6309 seconds) to start fifth.
        Kanaan's run gave Andretti Green Racing its fourth pole of the 2004 season and
seventh pole since joining the IRL in 2003. Kanaan has four of those poles, Dan Wheldon has
two and Dario Franchitti one. The team has won six of the nine races run this season.
        The Michigan Indy 400, round 10 of the 2004 IRL IndyCar Series, is set to go green at
3:25 p.m. (EDT) Sunday, with ABC Sports providing live broadcast coverage of the 200-lap
event beginning at 3 p.m. (EDT).


Tony Kanaan, #11 Team 7-Eleven Dallara/Honda/Firestone:
        "I need to thank the entire Team 7-Eleven crew, as well as Honda. They gave me the
opportunity to qualify up front. Before I went out for my run, I told my crew that we haven't had a
pole, yet, this year and now here it is. I'm very happy for the team. Obviously, we're here to put
the #11 Team 7-Eleven car on the front row, but qualifying is not all that important for this race. I
do know that we have a good race car, so we'll see what happens. "

Kim Green, President, Andretti Green Racing:
        "I'm very satisfied for Tony; he put together a great two laps to earn the pole position.
Team 7-Eleven worked very hard during practice to give him a car that he could qualify up front
and he put a great combination of laps together. Honda has done a great job with the engines,
as usual. Now we need to focus on the race and make sure that we can run the full distance. It's
a long race, considering how much practice time you put on your engines before you actually
race. But, I believe the Team 7-Eleven crew will be up to the challenge."
